Don Doe Solos at Mireille Mosler, Ltd.
New York City - Mireille Mosler, Ltd. announces New Mothers, Don Doe’s second solo exhibition with the gallery, comprised of vibrant and classically composed new work on paper. Responding to popular culture and stylistically quoting fashion photography, WWII-era pinup girls, and painters such as Perugino, Hans Baldung Grien, Rubens, Raphael, and Gustave Moreau, Doe depicts the torrential conflict of parenthood as the ultimate act of creation. On view through 20 December, 2009.
Nestor Basterretxea Donation
BILBAO, SPAIN - Basque sculptor Nestor Basterretxea (Bermeo, Biscay, 1924) recently donated one of the most celebrated series of Basque sculptures dating from the second half of the XX century to the Museum: the Basque Cosmogonic Series. The Series was first exhibited by the Museum of Fine Arts in Bilbao in 1973. The current exhibition comprises 18 sculptures, 17 of which are made of oak and 1 of bronze, which the artist created between 1972 and 1975.
Rediscovered Baroque Italian Masterpiece
DALLAS, TX.-A valuable, 300-year old Italian Baroque masterpiece painting, whose whereabouts were not publicly known for centuries until earlier this year when it was identified in a Texas warehouse, will be offered in a fine arts auction by Heritage Auction Galleries (www.HA.com ) in Dallas, Texas and online, Nov. 20, 2008.
Damien Hirst's Diamond Skull
Amsterdam, NL - The Rijksmuseum presents "For the Love of God", the celebrated diamond encrusted skull by Britain’s Damien Hirst. This show at the Rijksmuseum brings the world premier of the work’s international tour to Amsterdam. To accompany the exhibition Hirst has chosen a personal selection from the Rijksmuseum’s collection of 17th-century art. For the Love of God opens to the public from 1 November to 15 December 2008, for Amsterdam Museum Night and remains at the Rijksmuseum for six weeks.
Krannert Art Museum
CHAMPAIGN, IL - The Krannert Art Museum presents Out of Sequence: Underrepresented Voices in American Comics, on view through January 4, 2009. Recent attention to the history and development of comics and sequential art has been well-deserved and long overdue; however, it has also been limited in scope. Out of Sequence: Underrepresented Voices in American Comics seeks to showcase American sequential art that steps outside the traditional bounds of the medium. Two such boundaries are gender and race: Out of Sequence celebrates creators from underrepresented demographics, including women and minority comics creators, both historical and contemporary.

Mapplethorpe Solos in Germany
Berlin, Germany- For a long time Edward Mapplethorpe was overshadowed by his famous brother, Robert. For Robert’s sake, Edward even changed his name and called himself Edward Maxey, using his mother’s maiden name. Now, nearly twenty years after his brother’s death, Edward has had an international breakthrough with his own art - and under his real name. In a joint collaboration, Galerie artMbassy and Ketterer Kunst are respectively exhibiting Edward Mapplethorpe's Times Zones and Time Lines in October and November 2008 in Berlin.
Christie's Spanish Art Sale
MADRID, SPAIN - Yesterday's Spanish Art Sale held in Madrid totaled €5.575.450 / £4,404,606 / $7,749,876 USD. The sale's top lot was the painting "Matisse como pretexto" by Manolo Valdés, which achieved €505.000 and set new a world record for the artist.

The 2008 Sovereign European Art Prize exhibition presents works by 30 contemporary artists from across Europe selected by a panel of judges including Sir Peter Blake, Tim Marlow, Rachel Campbell-Johnston, Philly Adams, Alan Yentob and Jarvis Cocker.
